Our mission
To guide curious drinkers beyond the hype, by explaining what makes matcha, hojicha and other trending brews good, how to prepare them well, and which products deliver real quality.
Beyond Matcha is an independent, reader-supported review site and blog about the teas and coffees that are changing what people drink. Matcha opened the door. Behind it are roasted hojicha, mushroom coffee, yerba mate and many more brews, each with its own flavour, ritual and story.
Who we write for
- Curious beginners who want to try matcha or hojicha and don’t know where to start.
- Daily drinkers looking for better quality or better value than their current tin.
- Wellness and coffee fans who want an honest take on trending brews and their claims.
What we cover
- Matcha reviews: ceremonial and culinary grades, whisks and starter kits.
- Hojicha reviews: roasted green teas in loose-leaf, powder and tea-bag form.
- Other brew reviews: mushroom coffee, yerba mate, chai and other rising favourites.
- The Barista’s Blog: preparation guides, origin stories and recipes.
What we stand for
- Quality you can taste. Origin, grade, freshness and colour say a lot about a tea. We explain what to look for so you can judge for yourself.
- Honest about health claims. Many brews are sold with big promises. We separate what is well supported from what is marketing.
- Respect the tradition. Matcha and hojicha come from centuries of Japanese tea culture. We explain where they come from, not just how to put them in a latte.
- Make it enjoyable. Good tea should not be intimidating. Simple techniques make a big difference, and we share them.
How Beyond Matcha makes money
Beyond Matcha is free to read and earns money through affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click a link to Amazon on this site and buy something, we may earn a small commission. The price you pay does not change. Links to Amazon are marked as sponsored. Our commissions never decide which products we recommend or how we score them, and we do not accept payment or free products in exchange for reviews.
How we review
Our reviews are research-based. We combine product specifications such as origin, grade and ingredients with patterns across verified customer reviews. We do not claim hands-on testing unless an article says so explicitly. Read the details on our How we review page.
